Three time winners of the South African Music Award For Group Or Duo Of The Year, Mafikizolo have now commissioned their highly-anticipated “20”album in celebration of their 20th anniversary as South Africa’s favourite Afro Pop group.
Made up of Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Nciza; the band originally consisted of three members until Tebogo Benedict Madingoane was shot and killed in a road-rage incident in 2004. However, the remaining two have been constantly flying the flags as one of Africa’s finest on the musical stage.
In recent times, they have commissioned such continental-wide hit songs such as the recently dropped “O Fana Nawe,”which featured Mama Africa, Yemi Alade, and “Love Potion,” both 2017 monster records that will make the cut on the album.
Others previous efforts includes “Kucheza,“ “Emlanjeni”, “Happiness,” which featured Nigerian superstar, May D; “Uhuru khona,” “Kwela Kwela,” “Colors Of Love,” and “Ndihamba Nawe,”just to mention a few.
However, the “20” album is of iconic importance because of the milestone it celebrates. To be premiered under Universal Music, the album is a follow up to such massive projects as commissioned by Mafikizolo in the past including “Best Of,” “Reunited,” “The Journey The Hits,” “Six Mabone,” “Van Toeka Af,” “Kwela,” “Sibongile,” “Gate Crashers,” “Music Revolution,” and “Mafikizolo.”
This latest “20”album promises a world of heavyweight features across the continent including Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Gemini Major, KLY, Harmonize, Ralf GUM, Monique Bingham, DJ Ganyani, Nokwazi, Professor, Syleena Johnson and Jah Prayzah.
The “20” album carries the Southern African flavour that has brought Mafikizolo so much fame, fortune and success. However, it will also experiment around the frontiers of Afrobeats music from West Africa – an idea they’ve toyed with now on their two most recent releases to appeal to a younger, wider and more dynamic audience.
The “20” album looks like the one for the season and it contains 16-tracks of pure masterclass as can be expected from the stables and stash of Mafikizolo with their track record of firebrand and highly successful musical pieces.
